“She smiles at the future…”
Proverbs 31:25 NASB
Do you worry about your future? Are you anxious that your health may fail or your finances will dwindle? Is it possible to smile at your future, as we see the downward spiraling of our nation’s economy and morality? Just what does our Proverbs 31 lady know that today’s 21st-century woman needs to learn? Here are three reasons why this woman who walked in the fear of the Lord then or any believer today can look towards her future with a smile.
She Knows Who She Is
As God’s daughter, you know who you are because you know whose you are. You are like that little girl who bunked at an East Coast camp with the camp owner’s daughter. After three rounds of her roommate’s boastings, the Christian child said, “Do you see that mountain that your daddy’s cabin is on? Do you see that lake that your daddy’s yacht is in? Do you see that big, blue sky that your daddy’s airplane is in? My Father owns them all!”
You are a child of God. God is your Father. What an indescribable value is imparted to the woman who has looked to Jesus Christ as her personal Savior and been accepted into the family of God. When God is your Father, you are loved unconditionally and have been released from the need to measure up to superficial standards of success. You know that real beauty is internal, and success is defined as obedience to God’s unfolding plan for your life. And even if the worst-case scenario occurs, you are still God’s child, and He is forever your Father.
She Knows Why She Is
Women who live with proper priorities and a spiritual purpose have confidence in them. They don’t get distracted by unnecessary projects or unfruitful activities. She knows that her purpose is to practice and enjoy the presence of God. A constant reminder of this can be found in Luke 10:38 where Jesus was spending time in the home of two sisters named Mary and Martha. While Martha was distracted with much serving, Jesus said, “Martha, Martha, you are worried about many things. But one thing is needed, and Mary has chosen that good part…” You see, Martha was busy serving Him, but Mary was focused on being in His presence.
As you spend time with Him, He releases His presence to you and through you. You become like a perfume diffuser “spraying” the love of Jesus everywhere you go. My friend, you are on this earth for more than a career or a hobby. You are here to represent Jesus as Savior and Healer of broken hearts, broken bodies, and broken relationships. You can smile at your future because you know your life purpose is to release His love.
She Knows Where She Is Going
The story was told of Albert Einstein, the great physicist who was honored by Time Magazine as the Man of the Century. Einstein was once traveling on a train from Princeton when the conductor came down the aisle, punching the tickets of every passenger. When he came to Einstein, Einstein reached in his vest pocket, but there was no ticket. He reached in his trouser pockets, but it wasn’t there. He looked in his briefcase, but couldn’t find it. Then he looked in the seat beside him. He still couldn’t find it. The conductor said, “Dr. Einstein, I know who you are. We all know who you are. I’m sure you bought a ticket. Don’t worry about it.” Einstein nodded appreciatively. The conductor continued down the aisle punching tickets. As he was ready to move to the next car, he turned around and saw the great physicist down on his hands and knees looking under his seat for his ticket. The conductor rushed back and said, “Dr. Einstein, Dr. Einstein, don’t worry. I know who you are. It’s no problem. You don’t need a ticket. I’m sure you bought one.” Einstein looked at him and said, “Young man, I too, know who I am. What I don’t know is where I’m going.”
The main reason you can smile at your future is that you know where you are going. Heaven is your home! Meditating on heaven releases a constant source of joy. Jesus said, “Nevertheless, do not rejoice in this, that the spirits are subject to you, but rather rejoice because your names are written in heaven.” So, dear one, next time you get overwhelmed with the cares of this world, remember who you are, why you are and where you are going, and you’ll be smiling again real soon.
